Box set pre-listening
To celebrate the release of the box set “DAVID BOWIE: A NEW CAREER IN A NEW TOWN (1977-1982)”, PARLOPHONE RECORDS (Warner Music Group) invited selected guests to a PRE-LISTENING in the MEISTERSAAL. The highlight of the evening was a Q&A with CARLOS ALOMAR (Bowie’s guitarist from 1974 – 1987), EDU MEYER (a former sound engineer at Hansa Studios) and CHRIS DUFFY (son of the photographer Brian Duffy and director of the Duffy Archive) about Bowie’s “BERLIN YEARS”. The event could be watched by fans around the world, thanks to a LIVE STREAM which was broadcast on Facebook at facebook.com/davidbowie.
Is there a better place for discussing music with experts? In March 2015, the audio technology manufacturer BEATS ELECTRONIC was invited to a Q&A by the RAPPER DR. DRE. At the “BEATS BY DR: DRE SOUND SYMPOSIUM”, actor TIL SCHWEIGER, singer TIM BENDZKO, singer TOM ROSENDAHL, sound engineer and producer MICHAEL ZIMMERLING, moderator PATRICE BOUÉDIBÉLA and Beats President LUKE WOOD discussed the 1980s MUSIC SCENE of WEST BERLIN. As well as the animated discussion, guests were treated to a LIVE PERFORMANCE by TOM ROSENDAHL on the piano, and a set by the Leipzig-based band MALKY.
The legendary amp manufacturer MARSHALL launched its first rock ‘n’ roll smart phone, the “MARSHALL LONDON” in the MEISTERSAAL in 2015, with a wild party for 400 invited guests. The LINE-UP was stupendous: GLEN MATLOCK, bassist of the Sex Pistols, EARL SICK, guitarist for David Bowie (and others), and the Berlin-based stoner rock band KADAVER. And if that wasn’t impressive enough: COURTNEY LOVE. To thunderous applause, the former lead singer of HOLE and widow of NIRVANA front man KURT COBAIN took to the stage with GLEN MATLOCK and EARL SICK. The 400 guests let their hair down, and enjoyed a personal, intimate and thrilling concert in the historic venue to the max.
Stars such as DAVID BOWIE, U2 and DEPECHE MODE have all taken to the stage in the MEISTERSAAL to showcase their music in the world-famous “HALL BY THE WALL”. That’s hardly surprising, because the acoustics in the neoclassical building were made for them. Nowhere else can you find such a fascinating combination of sound quality, optimum reverberation time, and the perfect studio set-up. The soul-pop duo MALKY followed the tradition and recorded their second album “WHERE IS PIEMONT” in the MEISTERSAAL, accompanied by the BERLIN MUSIC ENSEMBLE. The result: The result was “WHERE IS PIEMONT”, a really good album on which the two musicians successfully showcased their distinctive sound and unique string compositions.
For the fourth time, the non-profit and independent organization diabetesDE (DEUTSCHE DIABETES-HELP) held the DIABETES CHARITY GALA in the MEISTERSAAL in October 2014 and raised awareness of diabetes and its complications. In addition to the presentation of the “THOMAS FUCHSBERGER PRIZE” to the lawyer OLIVER EBERT, the highlight of the gala was the moving speech by JENNIFER and JULIEN FUCHSBERGER about their father’s legacy, and the educational work of their grandfather, BLACKY. The evening was hosted by TV presenter and singer KIM FISHER. A musical highlight was a performance by the band ELAIZA. Around 300 guests from the worlds of politics, science and showbiz were invited.
